Figure 1: BVS CA-BN

The BVS CA-BN is a PCI Express board-level camera family compliant to the GenICam GenTL Producer standard. The camera family combines the Sony IMX sensor with up to 16 LVDS lanes with a 4 lane PCI Express interface including Generation 2 performance. Furthermore, the BVS CA-BN offers

  • a wide range of sensors and resolutions with high frame rates,
  • I/Os suitable for industrial applications, and
  • a modular design.

The PCI Express interface enables large sensors with high frame rates to be fully exploited at full speed. This and the modular concept makes devices of BVS CA-BN family ideally suited for applications in the medicine, reverse vending, traffic surveillance, 3D measurement, packaging, logistics, and robotics area.

Software concept

BVS CA-BN devices are GenICam compliant devices, using an XML-file describing the device capabilities. Within this XML-file it uses the names, units, data types etc. recommended by the SFNC to describe the devices features. Whenever custom features have been added to the BVS CA-BN firmware these can clearly be spotted by the leading 'mv' in the features name.

The following figure shows the software concept of GenICam™ GenTL compliant devices built by Balluff/MATRIX VISION:

For devices belonging to the BVS CA-BN family the mvIMPACT_Acquire interface is stacked on the Genicam layers, as shown in figure 2. The mvIMPACT_Acquire interface internally uses the GenICam runtime libraries, so that it can be considered as a user application written with the GenICam interface.

Due to the varying fields of application devices belonging to the BVS CA-BN family are shipped without accessories. The package contents:

For the first use of the BVS CA-BN we recommend the following accessories to get the camera up and running:

  • a PCI Express adapter card or a M.2 Key M adapter (if you want to connect the BVS CA-BN directly)
  • a Flex extension cable,
  • a lens.
