Bluescreen (BSOD) On Windows 8.1 When Uninstalling, Updating Or Disabling The GigE Vision™ Filter Driver

Symptoms

One of the following situations has been encountered:

  • When trying to remove an existing installation of any of the mvGenTL_Acquire*.msi packages during the removal of the package a bluescreen occurs and the driver is still listed as installed when restarting the system.
  • Trying the disable the GigE Vision™ filter driver on a certain network adapter using the application GigEConfigure causes a bluescreen and the driver is still listed as enabled by this application when restarting the system.

Cause

This problem may occur when one of the following conditions is true:

  • You have installed a mvGenTL_Acquire*.msi package with a version smaller than 2.6.2 on a Windows 8.1 system
  • You have installed a mvGenTL_Acquire*.msi package with a version smaller than 2.6.2 on a Windows 8 system and then updated this system to Windows version 8.1

Resolution

  • Delete the file mvGigECapture.sys from winDir%/system32/drivers
  • Reboot the system (not doing this will result in a bluescreen in the next step)
  • Update the mvGenTL_Acquire package to version 2.6.2 or newer
