Introduction
Figure 1: BVS CA-GV

BVS CA-GV devices belong to a very compact and flexible industrial 5 Gigabit Ethernet camera family compliant to GigE Vision and GenICam. The BVS CA-GV devices offer

  • small form factor at 29 × 29 mm,
  • best-in-class thermal property due to low power consumption, – power supply and data transmission via one cable by PoE,
  • backward compatibility to 2.5 GigE and 1 GigE interfaces.

BVS CA-GV devices are ideally suited for all classical areas of machine vision and allows an easy integration in the environment and support the application with helpful features to deliver faster and better results. The hardware capabilities can be teamed with machine vision libraries which are compliant to GigE Vision.

Software concept

The BVS CA-GV devices are a GigE Vision compliant device, using a GenICam XML-file describing the device capabilities. Within this XML-file it uses the names, units, data types etc. recommended by the SFNC to describe the devices features. Whenever custom features have been added to the BVS CA-GV firmware these can clearly be spotted by the leading 'mv' in the features name. The device can communicate with every third party compliant GigE Vision capture driver that can interpret GenICam XML-files.

The following figure shows the software concept of GenICam™ GenTL compliant devices built by Balluff/MATRIX VISION:

Figure 2: Software concept

As shown in figure 2, for the BVS CA-GV devices the Impact Acquire interface is stacked on the GigE Vision and Genicam layers. The Impact Acquire interface internally uses the GenICam runtime libraries, so that it can be considered as a user application written with the GenICam interface.
